I had a wonderful day at the Holi celebrations held at Munich, organized by Indo-German association. I haven’t got a chance to take part in any other holi celebrations until today. Luckily there weren’t much colours sprinkled around, so I saved my shirt and face. Just for the evidence sake, some of them left a few colour scars in my face and cheeks, sweet people!
It is indeed not a 100% desi event, as a remarkable number of German guests were present for the evening’s fiesta. India’s envoy to Germany was the special guest and he addressed the gathering. Indian dances, Hindi songs, an Indo-German music band’s presentation, Bollywood dances, Hindi DJ were the highlights of the evening.
Especially the Bharathanatyam performance which was extremely fabulous and magnificent, all performed by beautiful German ladies geared in perfect south Indian attire. The expressions which they brought with their head, neck, eye movements were noteworthy, in particular the dance team synchronized their movements very well with the music and they haven’t missed their rhythmic dance movements.

The lead dancer of the Bharathanatyam group is Mrs. Chandra Devi a German, added that she has dedicated much of her time in Kalakshetra, Cochin to learn the dance and Indian culture, it was a small talk with her. The Indian food in the fest quenched my hungry stomach, though it hasn’t met the expectations in terms of the quality and quantity.
To digest whatever I had, there was a dance floor and Mr. Vignesh (a post doctorate & friend) was made DJ for the evening. He started music from Hollywood US, UK, bhangra - Punjab, Haryana, UP, MP, then Mumbai after which he is reluctant to come down to Hyderabad or Chennai. So all I did was to sway my body and displayed (scared) the golden age Germans with my local dance skills.
It was -12’c outside, a kind friend dropped me home, hence not bothered to take my bike which is resting in the railway station. Dear brother bike, May you rest in cold. Thus the colourful day is recorded before I rest myself in my bed. Good night.
